Inspiration I: Glass Beads
Inspiration comes from a variety of sources. I’m going to explore some of what inspires me in the weeks to come. Here’s a post I wrote a few years back for another blog group with some updates and new thoughts. When I first started making jewelry, it was at a local bead shop that closed in the evening. Small groups of friends could come in after hours, string beads, drink wine and share chitchat. It was just for fun then, but I knew that I enjoyed the activity and I was drawn to the different materials: the intricacies of Bali silver beads; the shapes, colors and textures of freshwater pearls; and, at that time, natural stones and semiprecious stones. I didn’t really think about inspiration though. It was a form of relaxing for me…to clear my mind of rigid computer-related stuff. The inspiration came later. Over 7 years ago I discovered lampwork beads.

Bead & Button Recap
She also offers pendants from her daughter, Heather Wynn. You can find Pam’s beads in her Etsy shop and Heather’s work in her Etsy shop I had the pleasure of meeting Heidi, the designer behind Lillly Pilly. It’s so nice to meet the people behind the creations. Heidi and her helper Jodi create all the work from Lilly Pilly, which features engraved shell pendants in intricate designs inspired from nature. They are offering two new collections of metal sheets, one collection is embossed and patina brass and copper. The other collection is printed aluminium in geometric patterns. Both can be used to create pendants and bead caps. Check out their work at http://Topearl/ I love Julie Nordine’s work, you’ll find her under the business name Credit River Art Glass. She makes the most amazing glass acorns with electroplated acorn caps and lampwork beads. You’ll also find etched copper leaves and new this year were enameled copper leaves.

Yes, finally a bead post!
Recently I participated in a Bead Swap hosted by Lori Anderson . Lori maintains a great Yahoo group where Bead Soup Blog Party participants continue to keep in touch. Anyone can join…if you’re interested, drop her a line! I was paired with an awesome lampwork artist, Jenny Cameron of Glass Addictions (lucky me!). I’d love to show you the what I found in the big box of beads I received…. I tell ya, these swaps are so much fun. Nothing like receiving a mystery bead box in the mail! Jenny included some amazing clay pieces and some of her own gorgeous lampwork beads. I think I won the beading lottery!

My Bead Soup
This is the gorgeous bead soup I received from my partner Shiraz from Secret Song Designs She was so generous. Obviously, I have plenty of supplies here to make multiple jewelry pieces. Except for a sterling toggle that I put in at the last minute, this is the bead soup that I sent. She sent so much, that I hope I sent enough. The rules require that you send a focal piece (which I figured could either be the lampwork bead (made by DD Hess) or the “passion” charm); coordinating spacer or other beads; and a special clasp. I made a few claps, but then I thought the toggle would be good to add just in case she wasn’t thrilled with my wire handi-work. Once we get our bead soup from our partner, the next thing we have to do is make jewelry .
