I spent dozens of hours browsing hundreds of shops and looking at thousands of rings in the jewelry district. It was a great learning experience, but I really wish someone had sent me to Tommy and the Princess gang first. Here’s why:–They are one of a very small number of folks in the district who make their own jewelry. They control the entire process from manufacture to retail, meaning they can literally make you anything you want. They know their stuff better than any other vendor I spoke to in the entire district.–They were so good to work with. They were incredibly patient and supportive as I felt my way through the process. Tommy talked me through it and was amazing to work with.–They were incredibly flexible. By the time I finally decided on the ring, I was in a major time crunch. They had previously quoted me a full month plus to create the ring I’d designed, but they made it for me in 2 weeks. Plus they worked with me on the price (got a killer deal) CZ Jewelry, they were flexible in how they let me pay for it, and they were communicative by phone and email through out the entire process. And the ring was perfect. If you’re in the market and you’re heading to the DTLA jewelry district, and you feel like dealing with real, honest and talented people, go to Princess first.
My girlfriend can’t stop looking at her ring!! We had visited a couple high price jewelry stores to get an idea on ring designs. I was able to take mental notes and have princess jewelry create her ring. It was exactly what she wanted. Great price + great service = great ring. ?By far the lowest price around.
Very helpful. ?Very patient. ?Very professional. ?Very knowledgeable.Yong and Tommy know their jewelry, and there is no pressure to buy, which makes for a really nice experience.Selection is great, designs are beautiful. ?I still get compliments on all the jewelry I get from them. ?Worth the drive, honest working folks and great prices, too.
This place rocks. ?There are a million places to get your jewls but this place is great mostly because of the family that runs it. ?I have purchased our engagement ring, wedding bands, watch, and other stuff and they always provide excellent service, good honest information, reasonable prices and a friendly smile.Tommy does custom antique jewlery so if you’re into that fancy stuff, he’s your man!Great quality, reasonable prices and excellent service!
This place is the only place I will go to for my jewelry needs. ?I’ve visited close to a dozen stores shopping for an engagement ring. ?Yong was by far the most honest, patient, and helpful out of anyone I met. This place is a true gem and find! ?In business for 29 years and custom designs a lot of his own jewelry. ?The price was VERY reasonable.
There are a lot of different Jewelers in the Jewelry Mart in LA and it can be quite overwhelming so knowing someone or being referred to someone is always a plus. ?They are the only people in the Jewelry Mart I would refer people to go to. They are very honest, and patient, and they won’t try to “up sale” you. ?They will listen to what you want and show you items that are within your budget and are similiar to what you had described. Both Yong and Tommy are very knowledgeable!!! ?Yong is a gemologist so he really knows his stuff!! I still to this day look at my engagement ring and LOVE it!!!
This is the most unique and high quality jewelry store in the downtown jewelry district. My engagement ring is an estate piece – an art deco design with a center diamond and 10 small side stones. Tommy made a wedding band to match that looks like it was made at the same time as the engagement ring! Beautiful work. He joked with us that his mother opened the store when he was 6 – so he certainly knows his stuff! We also bought my husband’s wedding band from him. I would highly suggest this place for reproductions, repairs on antique jewelry, or for just a unique freshwater Pearl Necklaces, quality piece of jewelry.
For everyone that might be looking for an honest no hassle old school jewelry store Ive found one here in downtown LA. If you’re having a hard time finding them, look against the side wall. This is a family run store so you can tell they care about the quality of the jewelry being sold and they are very knowledgeable about the metals and heir overall value. Their prices are very reasonable since they both design and manufacture what they sell. Yes you read that right, they also manufacture jewelry in the area so you really can get customized jewelry.
of all the things i’ve done for my wedding, buying my husband’s wedding band was the least painful task. i did my homework. i looked up a few jewelry stores located in the downtown jewelry district on yelp, got a couple referrals from family and friends Silver Jewelry, and drove ourselves up. the first jewelry shop we stopped by was the one that has garnered highest ratings and received great reviews from yelpers. it was a nice store with good inventory, but i didn’t particularly feel welcomed by them. even though we were the only ones in the store, the sales person showed lukewarm excitement the moment we said we were only interested in men’s wedding bands. it almost didn’t seem like she wanted our teeny tiny small business. the next stop was a store reviewed by a trusted yelper. although the price was about 5% higher than the first one, i definitely felt more connected to the sales person here. she was very knowledgeable and never tried to say certain metals were better purely based on price. ?had the price been within our budgeted range, i might’ve had bought a ring from this store.our third stop was princess jewelry tucked in a corner of big room. a friend of mine just got her husband’s ring from here a month before so i knew what price range to negotiate within (at least 20% cheaper than the first 2 stores). after browsing different designs (men can be extremely picky with their rings!), we chose one we both liked upon the owner’s suggestion. when i asked for some discount on the price, thomas was brutally honest and told me that that was not possible since the price of gold has gone up. he did, however, offer to refund the difference if the gold price had dropped on the day the ring was getting molded. i requested the ring to be mailed to me (mere $6) since i couldn’t bear to drive to l.a. downtown and pay an arm and a leg for parking. in less than a week, i got a package with the ring AND $30 cash!!! i couldn’t believe my eyes…seriously, money back? he really refunded the difference? talk about integrity and customer service!!! the best part is that i love my husband’s ring so much that i might get one for myself. a woman can never have too much jewelry!!!
Yong and his team at Princess Jewelry are amazing!!! They not only have great prices, but are so friendly and are willing to negotiate. My husband got my engagement ring there and it is beautiful…they even let him custom design it! Since then we’ve been back a few times, to get my ring cleaned and buy the wedding bands and every time we go in, Yong remembers who we are…it is so refreshing! I would recommend this place 100%!

While most I know stay clear of Robertson now that Kitson has turned the street into a tourist/media circuit, there are still a few stores absolutely worth shopping. Vionnet is one of them. Nestled on the North end of the street, near Starbucks and Curve, it’s the kind of little shop you find the single most incredible item, something you probably never thought of. But shopping here can be tricky. Vionnet’s the kind of place where you shop for pieces – you’ll rarely see basics or denim, or anything cotton for that matter. The stock isn’t what you may be used to, particularly if you’ve been shopping department stores or places like Lisa Kline, which carry a ton of merchandise, size runs and colors. Ah, but Vionnet is a gift no less. The kind of store you find something so incredible, you’ll never put it down. On the downside, sizes are limited and most items are over $200.Is it still worth a trip? Absolutely. The Shelley Steffe racer back tank dress, gold braided satin belt and the new bangles I just bought yesterday are absolute love items in my closet. Parking is available in the rear, behind Curve. The best part? Kitson’s a full block away – you can actually avoid its tourists and hassles.
I had a very bad experience at Vionnet Boutique this week. If you are considering making a purchase here or are a regular customer. Buyer Beware! I purchased an item full price on Saturday and Tuesday was notified that it would be taking a reduction in price by 40%. I immediately called the store, before I was able to discuss why I was calling the gal who answered the phone told me she was too busy and asked me to call back in 10 min!!!! So I called back, if I was calling to buy something I wouldn’t have, I explained my issue and asked for an adjustment as I just bought the item. They told me they don’t do adjustments. I asked if I could return and re-buy it at the sale price because I hadn’t worn it. They said no. I asked for the manager to call me back she did after I made one more call. She told there was NOTHING they could do for me. I asked to speak to the owner Dahlia, they said she doesn’t ever come in and she probably wouldn’t be able to call me back and they were right, I have yet to hear from her. This was very disappointing to me because I have been a big promoter of ?her store over the years. ?What they don’t understand is that people choose where to shop. I will never shop here again. Go to Curve next door. Much Chicer and great people working there.
tiny boutique on robertson. has some very cute, delicate pieces. not the cheapest, but you wont look like everyone else on robertson, haha.
This shop is exactly how I would make my shop look if i had one. It is feminine, Parisian, and very boudoir like, and the clothing and lingerie matches this. Expect breezy springtime garden dresses and light wraps, along with sexy lingerie and delicate jewelry. All of the colors are in a muted, pastel palate, and are very sensually pleasing- to the eye, and soft to the hand’s touch. On the downside, the quality of the goods is highly questionable, not to mention the high prices. I have purchased a sweater and a shirt here, and both faded in color after one washing, and got way too stretched out. I had to return both, and customer service was not the forte of this little shop. Both were also well over $250, along with most of the other merchandise. Most stuff here is one of a kind, and the shop is sparse in additional sizes, so snag something if you see it and like it. If only the clothing’s quality was as great as the quirky cuteness of Vionnet!
adorable shop and very sweet sales staff. i managed to find a bracelet here fashion jewelry, but overall a very very limited selection.
Vionnet Boutique is absolutely adorable! ?The only original and unique store left on Robertson these days. ?The second you walk in you feel as though you are walking into your very own dream closet, and the staff is absolutely phenomenal (especially the store manager, Sabrina). ?For original gifts for others and/or yourself, this is absolutely the place to go.
Vionnet Boutique is a true boutique and when you walk in it is like walking into your dream closet. ?In all my experiences here the customer service has been great. ?You can tell that the sales people really want to help you find something you’ll look good in. ?I am not very fashionably inclined so sometimes I come here and they always put me in a cute outfit. ?Most pieces are over $100 but I come here when I’m looking for something that is nice quality and original.

On my way out of the Nikkei Credit Union Stainless Steel Rings, I couldn’t resist stepping inside this little store.I was greeted with the usual very polite and soft hello from the shopkeeper. This is the epitome of a gift shop.If you have a girlfriend and don’t know what to get her, come here. She will be pleasantly surprised by the very girly and unique items you can buy at this little store.I would love to buy myself a few baubles from this place to Stainless Steel Pendants, but my frugal radar was on high, as its right after Christmas.I will be back to Miso, very very soon.
This is a lovely shop with the friendliest owner. She always has the nicest selection of unique jewelry, floral arrangements silver jewelry, and random gifts hand selected from Japan. Prices are reasonable with some items being a bit more spendy. On my last visit I found a gorgeous barrette ($16) and a super cute stuffed bear from Japanese company Naomi Tozaki. I recommend Miso to anyone looking for a unique or girly gift.
Super cute store full of hand made high end jewelry using lots of swarovski crystals, etc.

Short Version: Professional and polite.Long Version: This small but very presentable store on the seventh floor is attended by Abraham, who is a professional and welcoming merchant. And while he didn’t have what I was looking for Sterling Silver Pendants, he explained that he would be able to easily import whatever I needed in a very short amount of time. He then took the time to show me the other merchandise he had, which all looked fantastic. If you have the time Body jewelry, it might be worth your time to stop. Abraham’s very helpful and knowledgeable.

LOCATION: Kind of a small space. If you blink you’ll miss it driving by. It’s located between The Gold Room and Bank of America on Sunset and is in conjunction with Ballard’s Art Frame shop; Another great local business. R+L is a treasure for Echo Park. SHOP: Featuring handmade gifts and beautiful accessories. I love to get gifts here and be able to tell a story of how it is helping someone else too! It’s a win win buy! They have a few Tee Shirts by an artist/gallery owner in Waco, TX (Croft Gallery), leather jewelry collection made by women in a program with LA’s Union Rescue Mission, and other jewelry by women in Ethiopia. There is also a baby collection, pillows and table runners, reusable coffee sleeves, and beautiful cards. There is something for everyone. I like that they help local women and women abroad. PRICE: Price for most items is reasonable starting at around $7 for a card up to $100+ for a hand woven cashmere scarf.
For the company R+L itself with it’s beautiful products and social justice message I have many many stars. The studio space itself was surprisingly small. I was hoping for a bit more variety and quantity of items. It was really just a *corner* of stuff – some bracelets, paper products, bags, and pricey scarves. There was a guy working there- probably the owner of the Art Frame shop who was really nice and gave me extra off my purchases. I got a lovely card set and some bracelets that were actually on sale as gifts for people.
I am a big fan of Raven+Lily! Not only are their goods beautiful and well-crafted, this organization empowers women in developing countries through design and fair trade. I’ve gotten pillow covers, jewelry, baby clothing and home goods for very reasonable prices, especially given that each item has been handmade. I try to gift from this organization as much as possible because of the beautiful message behind each purchase and its a wonderful way to spread the word about this group. Sorry that they are relocating to Austin, but happy that their goods will still be carried at Ballard’s Artwork Framing!
The products in this store are simply beautiful! ?I love the Saqa necklace from Ethiopia, and I always get comments on my beaded bracelet made by the Maasai women in Kenya! ?This is also a wonderful place to get meaningful gifts that are made with love!I also just love what Raven + Lily values and communicates to the world. ?R+L reflects the new direction of innovative social for-profit businesses and organizations that can greatly impact the developing world! ?As an international development undergrad major, I am excited to see R+L take major steps towards empowering impoverished women to find dignity and hope in maintaining sustainable livelihoods and contributing back to their own communities!
what a sweet store Stainless Steel Pendants! ?sustainable, one-of-a-kind, and PRETTY things made by women trying to make a fair living. ?the best part? ?i got to send a little message to the very women who made the coasters i bought! ?definitely beats mass production – it actually feels good to buy something for myself here Sterling Silver Bracelets!
This edgy accessory* art* gift* boutique shares it’s space with an art frame shop. ?Genius uses of recycled drawers as shelves and an installation that reminds me of the synchronicity 2 video. ?You’d think they know that they are cool but really it is all for charity. ?Bringing impoverished women’s designs to the heart of echo park and a lot of class to that corner. ?These women have a serious eye for design. ?It is my go to place for gifts now.
Awesome store with unique products, a positive message and super friendly staff.
This is a great place to find fair trade, eco-friendly gifts Stainless Steel Earrings!
